The Machine

The Dell Dimension B110, from the Factory it was a pretty low end machine sporting a socket 478 2.53Ghz Celeron D, an IGPU, 512mb's of ram and a simple ide hdd. It came with Windows XP, and was designed as a very low cost system, as evident be being socket 478 after lga 775 already hit the market, removal of the agp slot, and the aluminum heatsink. This example was manufactured in 2006.

Now This particular unit has been upgraded far past the original specs, now sporting a 3.0ghz Pentium 4 Precott with hyperthreading, 2gbs of DDR1, Copper heatsink, a PCI Nvidia GS 8400, along with a added floppy drive. It still retains the original dvd rom and cd-rw drive, and 250 watt psu.

The Flaws of this machine mostly have to do with the system fan, the motherboard did not fall victim to the capacitor plague which is nice. Now the system fan did work when I got the machine, it just was overly sensitive, easily ramping up to max speed without much heat which is pretty loud. To solve this I cut the temperature sensor off forcing the fan to always run at 100% and put a speed control inline to lower is down to something reasonable. Another addition not sure if it was necessary was adding a chipset fan since the chipset gets very hot on these boards. Also GPU related note - the GS 8400 isn't exactly very stable on windows 7 and easily crashes if you do something it doesn't like, much better on xp though.

The history on this machine was me buying it from my friend, Mason (The Group founder) sometime in like 2022 along with a optiplex gx260. At the time is was completely stock aside from the two hdds it had in it. Pretty sure I paid 40 total for the two of em. This machine was my Pentium 4 system and first major gateway into the old world of cpu's before the core 2 era.

I have two hdd's set aside for use, one running Windows xp, planning to have it dual boot with emmabuntu, and one windows 7 drive. I do classic gaming and general work on the machine. So it in general is a all around good pc, pleasant to use.
